The shift to digital photography has yet to be fully captured by retailers. According to the Photo Marketing Association, about 41 percent of US households owned a digital camera at the start of 2005. But in 2004 only about 10 percent of U.S. households made digital prints through a retail or online photo service. In contrast, in 1999 at least 84 percent of households owned a film camera (excluding one-time-use cameras) and almost all of them processed film during the year.
